Phone Safety, Vulnerabilities, Fake Accounts and Group Chats

  • Please can we ask families to support in monitoring their young persons use of devices/social media (use the following NSPCC links to guide/signpost:

    • Apple Screen Time: Located in Settings, this allows parents to set downtime, app limits, and content restrictions, requiring a passcode for changes.

    • Google Family Link: Enables parents to manage Android phones, set app limits, check location, and restrict content via a dedicated app.

    • Network-Level Control: Parent Shield offers a SIM that allows for call/text monitoring, white-listing contacts, and blocking of adult content and premium rates.

    • Third-Party Apps:

      • Bark: Ideal for teenagers as it focuses on scanning social media, text messages, and emails for signs of bullying, depression, or dangerous content rather than just blocking.

      • Qustodio: Offers comprehensive tools including detailed, real-time activity reports, time limits, and advanced location tracking with a "panic button" feature.

      • Norton Family: A strong, budget-friendly option for extensive web filtering, app management, and time scheduling, often included in security packages.
