New Bridge Pathways Blog - 10.5.24

Activ8

Activ8 have worked extremely hard this week during both their theory and practical pathway lessons. All students have put 100% effort into completing their BTEC work, and I am impressed with their level of dedication and determination to finish their essays.

In practical lessons, we have continued to develop skills in cricket. This week we have looked at basics of bowling and the forward drive whilst batting. All students enjoyed experimenting with new ideas and it was a pleasure to watch them progress throughout the day.

Fantastic week with lots more opportunities to explore the game of cricket and learn new skills.

Keep it up, Activ8, and have a lovely weekend.

CommLivSport

Hello everyone,

CommLivSport have had another busy week this week. Alongside our English and Maths, we have been working really hard trying to get our leisure and community action projects finished. The boys have been creating and finishing their folders making sure their learning is of the highest quality. I have been so impressed with them.

During our pathway lesson at MAHDLO, we have been looking at striking and fielding, in particular bowling and batting this week. The effort they put into their bowling, learning a new skill and trying to put in practice was amazing to see and they should be really proud of the team tigress they made over the session so a big well done to them.

In other news, a quick reminder that it is parents evening on Tuesday (14th) and I look forward to seeing you all then.

Finally, Mr Wilson hurt his knee a couple of months ago which requires an operation, which is scheduled for Wednesday (15th).

Unfortunately, this puts me out of action for the next couple of weeks as I am fairly immobilised and unable to walk or drive. I will still be planning and sending all learning over, the children won’t be affected and I will be in regular contact with adults in the school every day.

Have a lovely weekend!

Mr Wilson

ICT

This week in ICT  we have been looking at how and why storyboards are used.  Students then created their own storyboards which they will use over the next few weeks to create their keyframe animations on the computer.

Digi 1 this week as part of our Learning for Life lesson have been engaging well with others, understanding the importance of positive communication and being respectful.  They have also thoroughly enjoyed beating Miss McMurray at ‘Uno No Mercy’.

Lumenus

On 8th May 2024, Total Communication Services CIC and Lumenus visited the University of Manchester. Lumenus have been working with Total Communication Services CIC for a couple of years on a pupil voice project.

The group have been taught to use an approach called talking mats and they are adept at teaching others how to use the approach. They have created a beautiful movement piece called ‘hear my voice’ and a film to teach people about the approach. Lumenus have helped their peers express their views about school and the future using a talking mat. We were invited to the University of Manchester to teach the 1st year Speech & Language Therapy students how to use talking mats in their work.

Before the visit Lumenus thought about what they would like to ask the students and they decided to create a bespoke vocabulary set which was designed to ask the S&LT students how they were finding University. This bespoke set mirrored a set they created about school. It was an interesting process thinking about what it meant to be older and in university.

Lumenus performed their piece, ‘Hear My Voice’, a dramatic dance piece showing the impact of good and bad listeners on the wellbeing of those with communication difficulties.

Here is the fabulous feedback that the Lumenus students were given by the Speech & Language Therapy students:
