New Bridge College Blog - 10.5.24

Digi4ll

This week the photography students from Digi4ll have been learning about Ambient light and how to manipulate it.

This lesson is the 7th class since the Group started and as you can see from the photographs the class are creating some fantastic images.

The three different groups have covered many different subjects including how to use an SLR camera, aperture and F-stops. The photography lessons take place on a Thursday and students are beginning to build up a portfolio of photographs which are going to be showcased at the end of the year.

Girls Group

This week we have started our masquerade masks for the prom celebratory evening.

The girls have started to design a variety of masks to compliment the event of the theme.

It's been a productive afternoon and already they are starting to look amazing!

The girls will be working on this project for a few weeks and cannot wait to see the end results.

Enjoy the beautiful sunshine this weekend and we will update you next week.

Pre Interns

We are working on exam prep for both Maths and English. We all have proper examinations at the end of the academic year and are working hard to practice our skills.

Some of the groups are preparing for the next steps, so maybe moving onto Oldham College or Tameside sixth form and some onto the Future Finders College pathway.

At placement, some of us have settled into new placements and others have stayed in their previous placements to gain extra experience. In Employability we are learning about customer service in which we are transferring those class-based skills to placement and vice versa, talking about placement in lessons.

All About Me

"Hi I’m Emma, I’m the Senior Job Coach for the Key stage 5 Pre- Interns group at New Bridge College.

I have worked for New Bridge for nearly 15 years now, across many sites. Back when I started my employment there were only 2 provisions, Lower School, and the Learning Centre. I am amazed at how we’ve grown over the years!

I am a qualified Youth Worker by trade, going back to studying at The University of Huddersfield as an adult learner at the grand age of 30 and then 41 to complete my degree.

I have an adult son who currently lives in London, and I go down regularly to see him, navigating the underground system. I only got lost once last time I went which is an improvement!

I have an active life, I’m a retired runner due to injury so now I swim, preferring open water to pools and I ride my bike. I have completed 4 marathons and countless half marathons and 10ks. I am entering Aqua bike events now which is a swim and then straight on the bike. This Summer my Dad and I have planned a long-distance bike holiday from Fleetwood to Hull which is approx. 200 miles, this will take us a week.

I live with my 5 cats (yes! crazy cat lady!) and poor catpecked dog who is the only dog to have completed the Oldham Half Marathon race and got our picture in the Oldham paper. Wasn’t really in the rules and I honestly thought I would get disqualified at the end, but she’d trained with me so why not?

I have a massive collection of Dr Marten footwear with over 100 different pairs of boots, shoes, and trainer’s last count. They have their own walk-in cupboard in my bedroom. You will probably never see me in the same pair twice (or that’s my goal anyway) Keep an eye out, see if you can catch me out!

I love live music and my favourite pastime is going to gigs and festivals, my favourite band is elbow and I go and watch them every time they are in town. This has mounted to approx. 10 times now so far."
