Learning Centre Blog (13.6.25)

It's an exciting time at the Learning Centre, especially for our year 14 students who are getting ready for their Leavers events.

I’m very excited that for the first time, we are holding our Leavers celebration at an external venue.

Our Leavers record of achievement is taking place on Tuesday 1st July at Smokies Park hotel on Ashton Road in Oldham.

I’ve already had a sneaky peek at some of the speeches and I’m going to need a tissue! Always a very proud yet emotional event.

Our Leaver annual Prom is once again taking place at Oldham Athletic event centre at Boundary Park on Friday 11th July. Our students are busy getting their outfits sorted.

I’m confident students will do us proud at both events.

Monday saw our Eid Celebration event at the Learning Centre, where we welcomed both current, and year 11 families and Carers of students joining us in September. It was a great event and lovely to meet some new families.

The student council met again on Thursday, and I’m delighted to see the impact they are having. Miss Rowe has been working with Student reps on several initiatives. This includes, reinstating a Learning Centre worry box where students can drop in any concerns, and speaking to students around lunchtime clubs. As a result, we are introducing new games for the gaming club and Art club.

I’m excited to announce news of the New Bridge School Annual general meeting of councils from all 4 New Bridge sites, taking place in July. Students are liaising with key people to organise transport, dietary requirements etc. The meeting will also be acknowledging and celebrating all their hard work throughout the year.

It was great to see the work that has been going on in Mrs Reed’s and Miss Millward's classes.

Mrs Worrad reported on a busy week, and well done to their star student Dominic! One question, where was my Chocolate Brownie guys?

EB4 have also been very busy this term from whole school VE day celebrations to the artwork of Jean Michel Basquiat!

They have been studying the music and styles of the 80’s – When did my childhood become history!?

The class have also taken advantage of the nice weather within outdoor Education, learning all about the outside world. I would have loved to join in the scavenger hunt.

Please do check out both blogs below for full details and fabulous photographs.

Have a great weekend

Ebase 4

As we enter our final term here in Ebase 4 we would like to share with you what done since we last spoke. From the whole school celebration of VE day to the artwork of Jean Michel Basquiat, I hope you will enjoy reading what we’ve been up to this term!

To start the term we all came together to celebrate VE day where we created multiple pieces of artwork in the classroom and attended activities outside of the class such as when we went down to the cafeteria where we all were give a cupcake and a cup of juice with the rest of Ebase with multiple decoration spread across the room and colouring activities to complete at the tables. Later in the day, a full brass band came to the learning centre to preform for us all so our class went outside and watched as we listened to many songs that might have been popular during the 1940’s and even had a little dance.

Finally, we have been learning all about the 80’s looking at the different music and styles from this period, as our creative arts project the class has been focusing on the unique art style of Jean Michel Basquiat. The class as come together as a group to help complete a group mural in a graffiti style The students have each painted, coloured and designed portrait of themselves. The students have individually chosen different colours spread widely all over the canvas, and additional images that represent themselves.

During our Outdoor Education lessons this term we have been learning more about the outside world and what we can find within the school grounds. We have taken multiple trips around the learning centre going on scavenger hunts, we have focused on two separate hunts, the first being a generic, hunt in terms of finding different colour flowers, different types of leaves to all different types of birds and insects to find out what is thriving in our ecosystem. The class also took part in a sense’s outdoor scavenger hunt, we each looked at what we could see students saw fluffy clouds and tall trees, what we could hear such as birds singing and insects flying, what we could feel such as bumpy tree bark and smooth stones and lastly what we could smell such as the tree leaves and scented flowers.

This term might have been our best one yet! Here in Ebase 4, we have loved every part of our school year and have been delighted to share with you all the different activities we have done and events we have participated in throughout the year. Hopefully next year will be even better!

Ebase 4 - 13.6.25

Thank you all again for reading our blog, from all staff and students in Ebase 4.

COMS2 SRE

Wow! what a great start back at the Learning Centre!
Our students have had lots of fun. We took a trip to Heaton Park and saw lots of different animals including some beautiful highland cows.

Everyone absolutely loved exploring nature and then having fun on the park,  it was a perfect day.

Well, what can I say we are so very proud of our star student Dominic. He used to say no to wearing headphones, but this week he walked over to the iPad cupboard, took out a pair of headphones and independently put them on himself.

This was such a huge step. I felt quite emotional. Massive well-done Dominic.

We have had a busy week in our cooking lesson this week, making some delicious chocolate brownie cakes. We had lots of fun measuring and filling the cake cases. Everyone got involved.

Well done to each one of you, you're all amazing.
