CLAKE World Book Day
As part of our work around World Book Day last week the students were asked to read a piece of text, on their iPad or a physical book, get an image and explain in a few sentences why they like that book.

Daniel - "I like this book because I have learned about lions."
Nimra:


Kyan - "I like football, this is what I found out:
1. Football is started in 1863 the nets are tied.
2. The field is known as the pitch every country in the world has stadiums.
3. Cameroon is a football team in Africa."

Kira - "I like reading holiday brochures.
When I read this it makes me feel excited about booking a holiday. And it makes me look forward to our holiday.
And then we start counting down the days to the holiday. We start getting stuff ready and we start doing lots of different lists.
Tui offers lots of different holidays from sightseeing and cruises. And just relaxing in the sun And I would recommend Tui to anyone it’s a good airline and they will help you and tell you lots of useful information about the hotel.
What we really like about a holiday is we like lots of shade and lots of grass. And really nice weather and delicious food. Most importantly a good time."

Jack - "This is my favourite book. Because it’s got very morally complex characters and doesn’t try to preach anything. Even the main character, you can’t help but root for. And all of the motives are very understandable."

Finn - Finn researched Turkish food online and spoke about what he liked.


Thomas - "My book is called Mystical Creatures : Bigfoot.
I believe that is a good book because you get to know the story.
I do not believe that the story is real, people made things up.
It might be a bear or a giant ape, or a man dressed up as a Bigfoot to scare people away."

Ebase 4 Blog
Since our last blog, Students in Ebase4 have been very busy and have continued to make excellent progress both in the classroom and out in the community.
During our maths lessons, we have been accessing local shops to practise important real-life skills. Students have been supported to use a shopping list, locate the correct items and identify the correct money required to pay for it. Students have also been practicing handing the money to the cashier and waiting patiently during transaction. These activities have helped students develop their understanding of money while also encouraging patience and respectful behaviour when out in public places.
We have also enjoyed a visit to the local library. The students were fantastic role models and remained respectful throughout the visit. Students explored a range of different books and showed great interest in the shelves. As a class, we choose the books I Am Happy and I Will Wait Mr Panda, to support our learning and discussions around emotions, patience and positive behaviour.
While out in the community, Ebase 4 have also been working hard on developing their road safety skills. Students have been learning about how to recognise and respond appropriately to common safety symbols and signs. Students practised stopping and waiting at the road, checking that it is safe by looking left and right, waiting for a minimum of 3 seconds before looking for the prompts from staff to cross safely.
We are very proud of the progress the students in Ebase4 are making, they have continued to build their confidence, independence and understanding how to stay safe and respectful when out in the community. We look forward to sharing more of their achievements in our next update.
