Learning Centre Blog (10.7.26)

This week has been jampacked with celebrations, events and activities which can only indicate its our penultimate week of the year.

On Monday we welcomed the ‘Wild roadshow’ where students had the opportunity to get up close with some beautiful animals, they also managed to overcome some fears. We had snakes, a rather furry tarantula – which stayed in its box!, a massive stick insect, a millipede and a rather magnificent, bearded dragon, which I did hold! I’ll post a picture next week as proof! Please check out some of this weeks blogs for some lovely photos.

Tuesday saw our very special ‘Record of Achievement’ celebration for our leavers. Thanks to ‘Smokies’ who once again ensured our students felt special. Thanks to all the families and friends who joined us to hear our students’ wonderful speeches. I felt slightly emotional and immensely proud. To our students, please remember the last two verses of the poem I shared.

We're all proud of your journey, we're proud of your heart, And although it's time for a brand-new start, You'll always be part of our Learning Centre story too—

And we'll never forget this wonderful group that is you.

So, wherever life takes you, whatever you do, Take our love, care and very best wishes along with you. Be brave. Be yourselves. Be bold, be kind, be true.

You are amazing — the world is waiting for you.

This week, students were also treated to a rock concert, thanks Rebecca for arranging and to the whole band who ensured students loved every minute. ‘Mr Brightside’ was a particular hit with staff and student alike.

This week was also the culmination of a terms hard work in creative arts. Students used a mixture of visual and performing arts to take us on a journey through Africa, I couldn’t help but get up and join in with the ‘Jerusalama’ dance! Thanks to you all for the colour, enthusiasm and pure joy you brought to the Learning Centre. You were fabulous!!

On Friday evening students, staff and families joined leavers from New Bridge College at Smokies for their Prom night. It was a wonderful evening, and it was one of those occasions which reminds me why I love my job and feel very privileged to work with some inspirational young people.
