English Update
This half-term, we continue to study inspirational figures as our reading topic. Pupils have considered how public figures such as Steve Jobs, Emma Watson and Dolly Parton have advocated for (or highlighted the importance of) advancing technology, gender equality and charity. Additionally, pupils have been encouraged to question what key attributes, qualities and values these inspirational figures have and consider how, as a society, we can learn from their example.
In relation to the development of English skills, pupils have been working hard to master the reading skills they embedded in Autumn 1. For example, in Autumn 1, pupils were learning how to identify language features in different texts. This half term, pupils have not only been feature spotting, but have been considering the writer’s intent and the effect of the language on the reader. This has prompted some thoughtful responses from pupils, encouraging them to also develop skills such as inference and empathy.
Pupils also continue to work on their speaking and listening presentations (task 1), in preparation for their final presentations that will begin to take place over the next few weeks.
As always, the English department continue to be amazed by the fantastic work our pupils are producing, moreover, the effort that they give to each and every lesson.
Have a lovely weekend,
Chloe and Abbie 😊

Girls Group Update
This week, Mrs Nelson was greeted by Dr Shirley Woods-Gallagher with gifts of chocolates for the Girls group for the hard work they put in to designing and creating a beautiful bag for the celebration evening on Wednesday.
Dr Shirley was overwhelmed when she saw the bag in person. The girls gifted the bag to Shirley and wished her well for the special event and her nomination. Shirley shared that she will be back in College soon to share the award and discuss the events of the evening, and we look forward to hearing all about it.
We hope you had fabulous night, Shirley! Your bag is your part of your New Bridge family, and we are with you all the way.

Maths Update
Over the past couple of weeks our students have been learning about the world of fractions and have just started the topic of money.
Firstly, our students have worked on recognising the different values of fractions and finding their equivalent forms. Next, they developed methods for converting improper fractions into mixed fractions. Then simplifying them into their simplest forms. We then looked at the process and methods for changing fractions into decimals and then into percentages.
These lessons have helped build a solid foundation for further developing and understanding money skills; especially worded exam style questions. And soon we will be learning how to find monetary amounts then converting between fractions and decimals including percentage increases and reductions.
But before we delve further down into the money rabbit hole. We have been investigating how different coins can be used to make the same amounts of money. How using our rounding skills can be used to estimate the value of larger amounts and how we use estimation in everyday life; especially when we are doing are weekly shopping or adding items from our wish lists.
