Headteacher of College Update

...and just like, it’s half-term!

Unfortunately, the weather has been absolutely shocking since we returned in January. Yet, if one theme is to define New Bridge College this half-term, for me, it is ‘resilience and hard work’… coming from both our amazing students and brilliant staff.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank you all for your efforts. I am extremely proud and humbled by the huge levels of energy, passion and dedication that our students have presented and applied towards their lessons and work experience this half-term. As a result, achieving many of their step-targets and learning goals.

Not only are our students a credit to themselves, they are also a credit to their loved ones, families, friends, our New Bridge family and their communities. I do hope that all students and staff will take time out with the important people in their lives to relax and do some ‘fun stuff’ over half-term.

Students, please do have a wonderful and safe week (and one day) off from the College. See you all on Tuesday 24th March.

Activ8 Update

This week, Monday was another eventful day, they started with going to the gym in the morning at Saddleworth and partaking in a fitness regime with Callum, they started with a tough warm up and then went into a circuit training plan which involved body weight, kettle bell and rowing machine workouts.

After lunch the group went to Mahdlo and were treated to some indoor football for their hard work.

Wednesday morning, they then went to Mahdlo and carried on with their netball sessions, this time working on how to shoot and pass. Making sure they correctly pivoted and correctly shot the ball into the hoop. They then finished the day with a game using the correct netball positions and rules thanks to Miss Shirley and Mr Hollinworth.

During this, group 2 received their many well-earned certificates (up to 20) for living skills such as health and safety in a workplace, employability skills, social education and personal development and many more that will help them in their future endeavours.

Friday the 13th was not as scary as it sounds luckily as the Activ8 group went to Venture Out and took part in finding different types of wood, they then used that knowledge to find and cut down their own tree (already dead) for firewood, they took the trees back to the den and learnt to use a flint stick lighter to start their own fire (all safety procedures were sure to be followed although it was quite hard to prevent smelling of smoke for the rest of the day) they each got to use their self-made fires with a lovely treat of toasting their own marshmallows over their flames.

Girls Group Update

Today, three of our students shared several concept images and their thinking and ideas, with Dr Shirley Woods-Gallagher, behind the new neurodiversity handbag they have now completed.

Thank you Shirley for sharing the voyage of last year’s handbag with the girls. Wow, what a journey!

A huge well done to Miss Nelson and the Girls. Move over Louis Vuitton...
