A Morning of Oldham Culture at Pathways

What a morning it was at Pathways, filled with energy, creativity, and a whole lot of Oldham spirit.

Five of our Pathways classes came together to celebrate the culture, history, and traditions that makes our town so special.

Students were quizzed on their knowledge of Oldham’s heritage, whilst others made shields, wove baskets, and mastered the art of rag-rug weaving.

Old-fashioned games brought out everyone’s competitive side, with marbles proving to be the unexpected star of the day. And of course, no Oldham celebration would be complete without chips in cones, a nod to the town’s claim as one of the first places to invent the fried potato back in 1860. Dandelion and Burdock was a firm favourite as students sampled traditional drinks to wash it all down.

The highlight of the morning came when the brilliant Barn Howlers took to the stage, filling the room with the sound of banjos and ukuleles, singing a combination of traditional and modern music in the style of an Oldham Folk group. Students didn’t just watch, they joined in dancing, singing, and celebrating together – “Sweet Caroline” never sounded so good, so good, so good, so good!

New Bridge Community Living pupils continue to amaze us with their enthusiasm and sense of togetherness. This event was a reminder of what makes our school community so special.

A huge well done from all the staff at Community Pathways.
