New Bridge School

In Year 7 pupils are taught within tutor groups, with the same staff,
for all subjects other than Design Technology, Food Technology, PE,
Music, Performance Arts. Within these subject areas students are
taught by specialised staff and for some pupils sensory exploration
and development will be the most important aspect. For both English
and Maths pupils are set into ability groups across the cohort.
In years 8 and 9 pupils follow a similar structure to that of year 7 where
they are taught within mixed ability Tutor groups for many subjects,
but are then taught in a grouping system around cognitive ability, pace or
learning style for Maths, English and in Year 9, Science. Again pupils will access
specialized teaching within PE, Performing Arts, Cooking and Design Technology.
In years 10 & 11 pupils continue within their tutor groups but options take precedent and the likelihood is that they will move into groupings for the majority of subjects. English, Maths, Science, ICT and Cooking are compulsory within key stage 4. During Year 11 pupils access vocational options at the Learning Centre.
In years12,13 & 14 pupils are in a tutor group for registration. They move into different groups for all other subjects.
