We give students a range of practical mathematical opportunities which enables them
to operate confidently and effectively. We strive to make learning fun and interactive,
covering a range of topics that engages all learners. Regular cross-curricular links
are planned and monitored.
The teaching of Numeracy at New Bridge is geared towards enabling each pupil to develop within their capabilities, not only the Numeracy skills and understanding required for later life, but also an enthusiasm and fascination about Numeracy itself.
We aim to increase pupil confidence in Numeracy so they are able to express themselves and their ideas using the language of Numeracy with assurance. New Bridge uses the National Numeracy Strategy Framework. This provides guidance for the curriculum, ensuring continuity and progression in the teaching of Numeracy.
All pupils are given the opportunity to explore and appreciate the full range of the Numeracy curriculum.
Pupils are set of Numeracy according to ability and are allocated to the appropriate teaching group.
We also draw pupil’s attention to the links between Numeracy and other curricular work so pupils see that Numeracy is not an isolated subject.
