Curriculum

New Bridge School aims to provide a broad, balanced, differentiated curriculum which will meet the needs of all its students. The curriculum aims to enable students to acquire academic, vocational and social skills which adequately prepare them for the responsibilities and expectations of becoming adults.

Pupils in Years 7 – 11 follow the National Curriculum. The curriculum is different to that in mainstream schools in that pupils follow programmes of study at levels appropriate to their abilities which may mean that they spend some time working at a different level than their actual age suggests

All pupils follow individually tailored programmes linked to their Individual Education Plan. Units of work within each subject area are carefully planned and over a five year period efforts are made to provide a variety of learning experiences and different teaching and learning styles. In addition there is an intention to ensure continuity and progression.

The school has 3 distinct autism classes offering exceptional facilities and teaching and learning for 18 students in discrete provision with outreach support for pupils with ASD in the main body of the school. In September 2008 the school implemented a Learning Support Unit to support pupils who may, at times, have difficulty accessing the main body of the school. A designated team of staff has been appointed to work closely with these pupils, supporting them within a structured environment.
