Half Term Holiday Club

Holiday Club February 2024

Well, what a fabulous week we all had!

Our theme was ‘I’m a Celebrity Get me out of here’ at the school site. Students were winning stars all week with many different challenges including:

  • Star treasure hunts around school inside and out
  • Obstacle courses where stars could be won
  • Collecting stars in the quickest time in the pool
  • Water collection in the quickest time in the pool
  • T-shirt printing for each team : AB were slithering snakes; IB scurrying scorpions; Coms were creepy cockroaches and Sport/Art group were scary spiders
  • There was some creepy crawly pictures and messy play
  • Spider biscuits and trips to the park
  • We also had eating and physical trials for staff and students on Wednesday

I need to shout out for Liam, Tobey, Yousef and Cathal who were absolute stars in the eating trials as they bravely tried everything I put in front of them, including chilli chocolate with crunchy crickets; green custard with added mealworms; chilli crisps; disgusting flavoured jelly beans; cold spaghetti hoops and rice paper tarantulas.

Liam was exceptional, eating absolutely everything.

I also need to do a shout out for Mr Gardiner and Miss Noble for eating all the nasties I had prepared for them which included: rice pudding and cottage cheese which I coloured blue; twiglets and Nutella; Weetabix and mayonnaise; blue hard boiled eggs; prunes with chilli; disgusting flavoured jelly beans; grasshoppers, crickets and meal worms and chilli jelly sweets. Mrs Patterson made a valiant effort but unfortunately Mr Drake was absolutely hopeless.

The physical challenge had students and staff putting their hands in various things to retrieve the stars, staff were blindfolded to make the challenge more difficult. There was jelly with added crickets, flour, spaghetti hoops, shaving foam, dry rice, custard and Weetabix. This proved an extremely messy trial but thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The staff physical challenge had a representative from each group competing to move jelly beans into their bowls only using a straw, staff were very competitive apart from Mr Drake who gave up half way through but Miss Noble was the winner overall winning the most stars for the slithering snakes.

The final trial had students flinging fake cockroaches onto a target to gain stars for their teams, Joseph and Harley were very good at this getting the highest scores for their teams.

Wow, I can’t believe we packed all this into a week, everyone has thoroughly enjoyed themselves and can’t wait for the next one. A huge thank you to all the staff who have volunteered to support our young people over the holidays as we would not be able to offer this to parents, if it weren’t for you. I certainly appreciate your commitment to ensuring our students have a fantastic time as I am sure all our parents do.

Easter is fast approaching and the deadline for requests for a place is 5th March. Information has already been sent out via paper forms and Parentapp. If you have not received this information and would like a place on the club for Easter, please don’t hesitate to contact school.

Holiday Club Learning Centre/Pathways February 2024

We had a great week at Holiday club. We joined up with students from Pathways which was a great success, as new friendships have been built.

During cooking we made some
delicious chocolate flapjacks and rock cakes.

In art we have used sponges to decorate our spring
blossom trees, and we also created some leaf salt dough ornaments.

Students engaged really well in some team sports including, table football, snooker, basketball and badminton. We even managed
to relax in the ILS.

Well done everyone on a great week.
